Is the 6ppc right for me?

I had to go to a Straight 36x Scope to make weight unless I wanted to shoot in the Unlimited class. Most of the matches around me are Light or Heavy Varmint so you have 10.5 or 13.5 pounds max all in. I have a couple of NF 12x42s and I think they are 26 ounces. My 36X fixed scope is 17. Makes a difference.

Bob. The weight of those NF benchrest 12x42's are close to 36oz.

Whatever it is its way too heavy for even a hv weight rifle. He is talking about an nxs- i have that model and its like a lead bat built like a tank
I'm pretty sure that Bob has the Benchrest models not the NXS. In fact the 12-42 BR model weights more than the 12-42 NXS. I know at least a dozen guys that I shoot against that have their rifle setup for making weight using that scope.

Yes, I was talking about my NF Bench Rest Models, I have some 1`2x42s and some 8 x 32s. One of my other ones is the Competition 15x55. Model which I believe is a little lighter than the Bench Rest models I have.

I just check the web sites:

NF 15x55 - Competition - 27.87 oz. (that must have been the one I was thinking about)
NF 12X42 - Benchrest - 36 oz.
NF 8x32 - Benchrest - 36 oz.
NF 42 - Fixed - 20.7
Sightron 36 Fixed - 17.3

I shoot a few 6ppc's and prefer to buy my brass ready to go. It will run you about $200 for 100 pieces but you get many reloads from them. I run a 262 neck and the brass comes ready to FF..........Just a suggestion.

Regards
Rick

I started with Pre Turned Brass that I bought at The Shooter's Corner from Bob White. Still had to be fire formed, but it was turned and ready to go.

Case forming hassle???? Insert a 220 Russian in your fireforming barrel, fire and out pops a 6PPC...........what's the hassle?

Sounds good...….wish it was that easy!!
Well, that ain't quite the way it works. Still have to trim, turn the necks and re-fireform. Maybe even have to expand the necks depending on chambering. I seriously doubt a 6mm bullet would seat in that blown out .220R especially for .262NK chamber without neck turning. Good luck. Dan

I have always turned by eye, that is I have not trimmed before turning and developed an eye for how much I need to turn into cases' shoulders. For me, it is expand, turn, load, and fire. Yes a fire forming barrel is a great way to save your good barrel(s). I trim after the fire forming shot, to 1.490, which cleans them all up. A couple of recent improvements, one in equipment the other in technique, have let me return to this simplified approach. I have made 6PPC cases from .220 Russian in a variety of ways, some a lot more labor intensive than others. The new, double struck Norma brass would only require turning, and seems to have sufficiently hard heads.

It is JUST that easy.
