Is the .223AI ok for a AR-15?

As the topic title asks, is the .223AI a good chambering for a AR-15?

I know you need to FL size or Body size for semi-autos so they eject, chamber correctly on every piece of brass. So does the AI chambering work in a AR-15?

If it does work what advantages would I have over a match .223 Rem chamber?

Thanks alot for any input.

John

The 223 AI will function properly in an AR. The old 20 rd mags with metal followers work great. If you google "223 ackley" on the first page there is an Article titled; "Pumping up the 223". website is findarticles.com. It is all about a 223 Ackley in an AR. I think it will help you out.

I have one that I built up a few years back. Its a hammer on coyotes. I like Ramshot TAC and 55gn Nosler BTs or Sierra BKs.

I had no problems with any mags,20-40 rd) once I switched to magpul followers.

The only real problem with the AI in a AR-15 is that you cannot take advantage of the higher case capacity using heavy bullets,if you are intending to feed from the magazine) . At Magazine length the long bullets are pushed so far into the case that you are well past the extra capacity you have built in to the case . If you are looking to use it as more of a varmint cartridge and shoot 55 grain bullets and lighter then you can realize the added benefits of the Ackley .
