is it firecracking or a carbon ring

This may not help as it looks similar but different. This was in a 6Dasher with about 800 rounds on it. This is before and after pics of fire cracking and after JB paste with brush on drill.

yeah mine looked like youre first picture but after i cleaned it i could see the firecracking running further down the bore. thanks

Goodness, if there is such a thing of negative # fb You've got it.
That cracking is a normal after 500 rounds imo
well im shooting 150 grainers out of it that arent touching the lands and the pressure ring isnt lower than the neck/shoulder junction. its just a ruger factory barrel. i think you are right and it is mostly firecracking..
thanks

Here is a bad case of carbon ring build up.

Here is a few images of a bad case of firecracking, it is from the muzzle to the chamber. The amazing thing is the rifle still produced tight groups. Neither of these rifles are mine.

Both hard carbon build up on top of some degree of fire cracking/heat checking. Clean out the carbon with Iosso, Flitz Bore Cleaner (not Flitz metal polish), Thorro Clean, KG2, or JB Bore Compound. Iosso and Flitz work faster than most all other abrasives except REM 40X and Holland’s Witch’s Brew as those 2 seem to be more aggressive or contain a harder abrasive.
