Is FFP the new 6.5 Creed?

Looking at polls and remarks from FB groups. All the FFP/SFP polls and all the remarks from LR/ELR shooters. I just can't figure out all the FFP love, especially from the ELR guys..... It's like 90/10 FFP.

It's like the FFP/6.5 Creed are in the same boat...if you don't use it you are just plain ignorant. EVERYONE knows the the 6.5 Creed/FFP is the best.

The ONLY advantage , in my mind, of the FFP, is being able to hold over at any power setting. I get it...especially in PRS. But ELR and LRBR?? Otherwise, holdover is holdover, weather in mils or moa.

Does anyone use them for ranging duties anymore?

And most of the FFP scopes I have seen in the past, the reticle gets WAY to big for ELR.

How many guys in the big ELR matches like the KO2M matches actually use FFP scopes.

Sorry...all this sitting (limping) around has gotten me stir crazy. Rant over.

I bought a FFP 5-25x scope for NRL22. It's basically required, otherwise you can't hit any targets. Gotta be able to do hold-overs. At 5x you can't see the reticle, and 25x it's too thick. FFP works for probably 10-20x.

I bought a SFP Kahles K1050 for my .308. I like it's always the same thickness, no matter my magnification level. I shoot it off the bench, and can dial.

They are both right, neither is wrong. You need the right tool for the job.

Same, I don't dial wind except on movers.. Some stages are hold over only. And no, the reticle is not too big for ELR.

I do.

And, I almost never dial my wind. So if my calculation says .2 of L wind, I can hold it. If you're SFP, you better dial it or you'll probably mixed up as you adjust the power as conditions change.
Never been mixed up, and I usually hold for wind...except in a 1K match. What calculations? You are using your reticle for ranging....where do you get the .2 wind hold from?

When you shoot multiple targets from various distances like in PRS Mil FFP optics rule, period. 6.5 creed has nothing to do with it. In PRS the 6mm's rule. How many clicks does a MOA optic require to dial from 400 yards to 803 yards? Mil optic would require 32 clicks.

1000y 6.8 =23.37 MOA
803y 4.9 = 16.84 MOA
600y 3.0 = 10.31 MOA
400y 1.7 = 5.84 MOA

If a FFP scope fits your needs, then I guess you should go that route.

For me, I prefer SFP scopes, they work best for my purposes. Changes in reticle size would drive me batty.

Also, I prefer a simple plex reticle where I don't have to think too much, just shoot. I have enough on my mental checklist to conform to good shooting form to make the shot without having to add something else to the thought process - often there isn't time in hunting situations.

Is FFP the new 6.5 Creed?

I will suggest that much as the 6.5 Creed taken a place in certain disciplines, so has the FFP. It works in some circumstances very well, and in others, it is not a viable option. Scopes are a tool like everything else. You wouldn't use a jack hammer to hang a picture, and you wouldn't use a finish nail to frame a house. Scopes are no different. I also don't use a fixed 40X on my AR15 carbines.
