Is anybody shooting the 58gr Vmax and Viht N-135 in 6BR for varmints

I have a 12 twist 6Br and access to 650 acres of hay fields that are about done for the year. Is anybody shooting the 58 Gr VMAX with a 6br for 250 - 400 yard varmints (ground hogs and their predators)? I have a brand new pound of Viht N-135 on the shelf just calling me. Normally, I use it with the Berger 80 gr varmint, but, there is a box of brand new 58 gr Vmax I kinda bought by accident (they were out of the 75's).
Anyway, before I try to work up a load, thought I would ask if anybody is using these for GH's? thanks rc

rchouser,

I shoot a 12 tw with N135, but I shoot 70 Blitzking. There are good out to 750 yds. Your 58 should work great.

I guess I will just put them through my ballistics software and see what the carry looks like at the 400 yard mark. If they are too slow, then, I will carry some berger varmint 80s (which I have). Mark, I will look at the 70 BK's. thanks rc

i use benchmark, a little quicker, w/58 gr vmax and 1/12 tw. 26in. bbl and it surprised me how well it did. high percentage on pd's @ 300 yds. a few inches difference over 70 gr bk's in the wind, but not much.

i been shooting the 65-v max in the br for ten years and swear by them, launching them at 3,500 fps they have been great out to 750 yds. but just recently i been playing with the 70gr SBK with that imr 8208 xbr powder and i found i can get 3,530 FPS with them(wow). last night i killed one at 440 yds with the 70 gr SBK and one at 513 yds and what little bit of shooting i have done so far with them looks like i may leave my beloved v-max. im shooting a 14.

My 14 twist's 6ppc and 6BR's prefer N133 with the 58 V-Max. Tried N135 & results were not as good. They seem to work better (for me) with the faster burning N133. The 80 gr. Berger flatbase are excellent with 30 grs. of N135 in my 8 twist 6BR's.

Beings I learned this from Frank, I agree with him. With the lighter bullets, I've found the N133 shoots more accurately than the N135. At 70 grain bullets, you start to go the other way and N135 might shoot better. So far my best groups with 70 grain bullets have been with N135, but N133 is more consistent in producing small groups.

Didn't have my Chrono because I had limited shooting time.

Sub .5 groups with both Viht N-135 at 30.2 and 30.7 and br4 primer. (shot 9 half grain loads). These were number 4 & 5. 6-9 dispersed by the half grain.

I need my chronograph to see the speeds. They shot well. I suspect about 30.5 may be it for this combo.

I didn't mic the OAL but, I seated the bullet about 1/2 caliber past the boat tail.

thanks rc
