Is a take off barrel worth anything?

Hello all,

I have a take of barrel from my Rem 700 VLS. Its chambered in 243 Win and has a high round count. 26 inch, 1-9.25 twist, Rem Varmint contour, let me know if its worth anything to one of you guys.

Thanks,
Matt

Its always worth something. For fireforming, hard to beat. What really blows me a away is how many times you'll see a new take off barrel go for 100$. To each there own..

I think they are great to practice ones machining skills on myself, not much else...

You could......except for the high round count aspect........it's toast.

Would make a fair fireform barrel.....supposedly hard on reamers though.

I may learn someting today??

I would have thought that the bulk of the damage from the high round count would be in the chamber rifle land area.. 1" or so from the chamber and back-- So if you punch it to the 6MM AI would it not remove most of the material in the high wear areas??

Or is the rest of the barrel truly worn out??

i have taken 26" high count bbl's cut 1" from muzzel and 2 from chamber end, re thread, chamber etc and find they shoot very well for another period of time depending on the bbl life of the new chambering, use 6br or 6x250 and you will be surprised how long it last

some years ago a smith of renoun took a bbl "shot out" turned it around, trimed the ends -chambered the muzzel and shot in Br comp, he won matches with it shooting "backwards" down the bbl.
