Is a .315 neck too loose for a 284W?

Hi Guys,
Is a .315 neck too loose for a 284 winchester when using 6.5-284 lapua brass? The Gunsmith has a reamer with a .315 neck & I wondered if this would allow sufficient clean up of a neck without the clearances getting too excessive for a competition rifle.

My loaded round with Lapua brass turned to .013 measures .310. I personally don't think that .315 is too sloppy but others might disagree. Unturned brass should be right at .312 as Cigarcop stated.

I use a .316 NK ....the WW brass which I use ocasionally is .313 loaded.....so the lil xtra wiggle room makes me feel more at ease....Roger

So say a .315 neck - .004 clearance = 0.311 If a loaded round using 6.5-284 brass measures at .312 is .0005 amount removed from neck turning will this be enough to clean up the necks of the lapua brass satisfactory for consistency?

it sounds like your chamber is NO turn.....try a few that way,,,and see how they shoot...Roger
thats what I would do. My neck is a .312 and I have to turn my brass (I HATE IT!) nothing wrong with trying it first.

I have read elsewhere on this board that you do not need tight neck clearance in .284 Win., and my experience bears that out. Mine has a SAAMI neck (.322"), and I shoot lightly turned (mostly to remove the donut) Lapua brass (.312" loaded diameter with Berger 180gr Hybrid). Gun shoots great, I just have to use a .315" bushing before I use the final .311" bushing (otherwise, the neck will "overrun" and end up smaller than .311" if I just use the .311" bushing). I also have a Bench Source annealer that I use after every firing.
