Not in nbrsa or ibs it's still top dog for score. Alot are using 6's in ubr because of the targets being caliber specific.Don't read much about the 30 BR anymore even in UBR. Has the 6 nudged it out in shoot for score??
I am going to be shooting my 6PPC at 200 more often this year in VFS. But the 30 rules at 100.The 30 br ibs competition shooters are not a talkative crowd. Rarely does a six outperform a 30 at 100, 200 and 300 yards. It's an x count game.
And i find that the 30 is blown much farther than a 6. So several will shoot a 6 at 300 just trying to get all 10's.
In ubr it's just not sensible to shoot a rifle that beats on you.

Definitely not a recoil situation. That was never a bother. I most recently shot a UBR match last October with the 30BR so I still mess around with it. I just find the 6PPC to be more forgiving in the wind than any 30BR barrel and bullet combo I ever shot, especially at 200 yards. Keep in mind. This is UBR where there is no advantage to using a 30BR because the targets negate that. JMOJimmy Mac went from 30 to 6mm what say you? Was it recoil? Jim shot a score world record with a 6.
About 20 years ago the late Eric Klemitich built a HBR rifle around 44 caliber. He used a Panda action.I would be interested to see what delightful cartridges and bullets would arrive on the scene if they allowed up to 50 caliber in ibs/nbrsa score. Do you think guys would tolerate the torque and recoil of a 50 caliber bullet to gain the scoring advantage?
What kind of deal are you looking for?If I could find a deal on a 30 cal, 17 twist barrel I would be shooting one this season for sure.
That’s quite interesting. I wouldn’t try headspacing on the case mouth for real accuracy and I wouldn’t try a pistol bullet either. Neither seem conducive to BR accuracy. I was thinking something a bit more like a 50 WSM and some kind of custom bullet, maybe in the 350gn range that looks like a scaled up version of the 100-ish grain 30 cal bullets used now.About 20 years ago the late Eric Klemitich built a HBR rifle around 44 caliber. He used 6BR cases expanded to .429. It headspaced on case mouth like a 45 ACP.
The bullets he chose were Sierra match bullets, which are actually pistol bullets intended for the 44 special/magnum.The barrel was a Shilen.
He put a lot of effort into it. And spent a ton of money. He even tried different twist rates. The only problem was it never shot better than 3/4 groups at 100 yards. He finally gave up on the project.
Whatever the 6 needed I would add a ring with the 30. 6 is a bit better, but whether you need to hold 2 inches, 3 inches, or 9 inches....you need to know.
