Is 14x enough for 600 yard F-Class?

If that's what you have, use it. Personally I use the 3X/100 yard rule of thumb as a minimum, but I place as much or more emphasis on the style of reticle...

I was contemplating buying a conquest 4.5-14. I am building a 6.5x47L that I will use for deer/coyote hunting as well as local 600 yard F-Class. Also, looking at Nikon 6-24 or 5-20. What do y'all think? I have a Nikon 6-24x and like it so far. I haven't had it long. But I hear a lot of good things about the conquest.

Was planning on doing that. However, don't have the heavy mirage now that is present most of the year down here. Will the heavy mirage render my high,18-24x)useless?

Even with heavy mirage I rarely move mine off of 42x...

The mirage doesn't really go away even if you dial down the magnfication... and its usually helpful to actually see it. Although there are times when it gets to where I can't separate the scoring rings and the spotter due to the soup between me and the target. That is about the only time I dial down the power... and then maybe down to 20-22x.

YMMV,

Monte

14 is enough, but you will wish you had more. Look at what the winners are shooting. None that I know shoot a scope with only 14 power. If that is all you have shoot it!!! If you are buying, get more power!!!
