Is .122" too much jump? Unsafe? 300 gr. Berger Hybrids .338 Lapua.

Berger tactical ammunition is what I am shooting, and it shoots really well, but is too long for magazine on my 98B. Want to load same bullet.

When I first bought a .204R years ago with factory barrel.... the jump to lands was .187 and this thing
was very accurate:confused::D. Loading them singly the closest I could get to the lands was .048 thousands. I
finally shot the barrel out and now it is a 20 practical with about a .010 thou jump. :)

A long jump does make one difference in the positive.......you can use more powder.
Within reason of course.:D

My comp rifles jump 215gr Berger’s .120” in most cases, my 264 jumps 140gr VLD’s .080”.
I find short throats and close seating beneficial in some cartridges and applications but not all.

Cheers.
:)

Long jump is what I call free bore
If you ever shoot a Weatherby you would know .
I had mine rebarreld and took away the free bore and my Weatherby factory ammunition was way to hot .
Jumping a bullet take away the pressure
The initial start pressure
Setting back the bullet also decrease
The usable case capacity
