good morning! I'm Ana and started reloading for myself a couple months ago. Used to help a friend but now have my own press. My first creation was some .318 8x57 for a sporter gew 88 I had picked up but couldn't find ammo for. I noticed a new small crack in the wrist after shooting it and since the stock was not original to the action, I ordered another just to give myself the best chance to be sure everything is tight. So waiting on that and moved on the next ammo I need which is 8mm-06 AI for a M43 Spanish Mauser and have ten rounds made and getting ready to fireform that. Will shoot that in a couple days. In the evenings I review info on Google and this is the first time I have joined a forum. Hope you all enjoy your day!

Welcome! Are you casting bullets for your 8x57, or have you found a source of jacketed?
You're working with some interesting rifles, and I wish ya luck. jd
hi! thanks. no, i don't know how to cast. i happened to be going to the lower 48 so I found some .318 projectiles at Buffalo Arms and shipped them down and then brought them back to Ak in my luggage lol.

ok I got out and shot this 8mm-06 AI (M43 Spanish Mauser) I used a string to pull the trigger on the first round as I have had this rifle for a couple years but never shot it as I didn't have ammo. It was cheap at a gun show and so I just decided to be extra safe. After the first shot, I got approx 35 yards from target because my old eyes aren't great with iron sights anymore. Wanted to see if I could at least get a group since I was fireforming anyway. I think someone said fireforming was an exaggeration lol but I don't know what else to call it. Anyways, I used 46 grn IMR 4895 and Hornady FP 170 grn .321 (since I happened to have extra of those). I only made and shot 10 rounds as I wasn't sure how it would go. The cannelure was showing on them because I read to seat them so they would be tight on the chamber. They all formed fine and I'm really glad because I debated about whether I would load as usual or if I would use a rubber bullet and some shotgun powder. Someone had given me an almost empty container of Red Dot and the rubber bullets and told me to try that. I spent about a week reading what people on this forum and others said about fireforming. I decided I didn't want to mess around with fillers so I used a regular bullet and minimum load. So now I will make the other 90 rounds up and shoot them. Oh I got about a 2.5" group so I will get one of those aftermarket scope mounts that attaches to the front sight. I will see if I can get that to stay on it and then see how it does at 100 yds. I'm going to try and attach a pic of the before and after IMG_20250326_122602569.jpgIMG_20250326_122602569.jpg

oh sorry looks like i posted 2, they are both same pic, i think I should have not hit the insert button lol
