Intrepid indicator

The Mity with a 1.5" stylus might be the best of both worlds. They're just fatiguing to read because the dial is small.

I have both the Mitotuyo and the Interapid . One set at home and one at work. I like the Interapid better.

I think @butchlambert likes the Mitituyo better.

I wish someone made a tenths indicator with a 1" dial and a 3.2" stylus.

I think a lot of different tools and methods work. I have come to really like the Interapid, but there are lots of ways.

Not looking to dis what you are doing, but that is not a valid test. Each stylus is at a different angle. DTI need set at a certain angle to minimize cosine error. Cosine error is real and not many realize it. Measuring with a DTI to resolve a dimension is tricky. 99.9% of the time they get used to indicate to obtain a zero condition(not measuring with it). The indicators that are showing more run out is most likely cosine error.

Do the numbers on a mitutoyo 513-401-10E fitted with a long indicator. They are 1 micron with a 11.2mm contact point and have a large face.

I think I read somewhere on the mitutoyo web site that its reads best at 12 degrees? I think
Mitutoyo 0°/90°
Interapid 12°/78°
We really aren’t measuring anything to a specific dimension in this application so the angle wouldn’t be critical.

I got mine today... It is as advertised by Dusty. It's like a fine watch. It's got a pretty stout spring for the stylus as well. I'm excited to put it to use... Which will have to be next week once this zero degrees BS passes by.

what 6mm cartridge needs a 5.5in chamber ??
the 2.9/2.75 seem todo most common br chambers
I'm not saying for a particular cartridge. I'm saying in general terms. The 5.5" will be extremely tricky to use stuck deep in any bore. Some prefer to indicate just a long section ahead of the neck and not worry about anything else. I'm guessing that is why they use them. I got my method and it will never involve a 5.5'er...
