I have been reading quite a bit on the 22 Creedmoor and once my current 22-250ai is toast I’m going to give one a try.

I’m dumbfounded however on the stupidity and idiocy of what people are loading these things to online.

Guys, I think we can all work together to try educate newer reloaders on wildcat cartridges and in doing so hopefully save an eye, finger or life of someone who doesn’t understand what a “max charge” is.

A Facebook group dedicated to the topic of 22 Creedmoor information had a number of guys that have worked loads to 3600fps with an 80 grain bullet.

Referencing the Peterson Cartridge company’s article on pressure and the 22 Creedmoor a 3600fps load with and 80 grain bullet should be in the high 80k pressure range if not low 90k.

But it’s always “safe in my rifle”.

Try to educate when you can to those who will listen.

Sounds like they subscribe to the He-Man Handbook of Reloading. If they're lucky, the primers will be the only thing blown out.

My 80.5 bergers are 3540.at 3600 I only get 2 reloads before the primer pockets are loose. Can I go to a small rifle primer pockets ( petersons srp) maybe therer would be more meet to prevent all the stretching?

Sounds like that’s walking the fine line of pressure. Perhaps back off a little and see what real world difference it makes. I have been in your situation and pushing things further than I should but when I ran a few number in a ballistic calculator, I realised it was all for naught. That’s just my opinion.

The below image illustrates what I mean. At 600 yards there’s 12in more drop with the 3450fps loads, a distance that is always going to be dialled. Until 400, the two are almost identical. Moreover, in a 7mph full value wind, the 3450fps rounds drift 6in compared to 5.1in with the 3600fps. Is that difference worth it? If so, go for it! But for me, it’s not.

Like anything else, you have to make judgement calls on the poster.

The 6GT group on Facebook has George Gardner participating and he provides load data. His data is pretty spot on, IMO.

Well, it applies to things in person too. It's no different than asking someone at the range what load they're using.

I can't imagine why shooters who want more speed just don't move up to a larger case. I shot a 22-243AI for many years. I could safely get a 75gr A-Max (moly) bullet to 3,670 fps with extreme accuracy from a 26" bbl. Lapua cases lasted for 7-8-9 reloads. Pockets were still good but I wasn't annealing back then and just tossed cases when I thought they had enough.

I doubt that any 22 Creed could do that "safely".

Way to high of pressure at 3600.

When I first got into F-TR and got my first 30" Krieger barrel I realized that I either had the slowest barrel ever to come out of WI or I needed to ignore what a large number of people were posting online for velocities from their 308s.

I still ignore those people.

I just load develop till the bolt starts sticking. Reduce a grain of powder, then reduce by .3gr until I find accuracy. This way I know I have the most accuracy for obtainable velocity. Brass lasts longer too.

If I want faster I go to another cartridge.

I needed to ignore what a large number of people were posting online for velocities from their 308s.

When I first started reloading, I had 155s launching from a 20" barrel at 2950 (Schneider 5P barrel). I was pretty excited. Then I tried to use a ballistic calculator for long range drop chart. On every single target I was low. Very low. Yea, my chrono was bad. 2750 was more like it.

What about the people who shoot 6.5 Grendel in a AR and report that their loads are safe because they see no pressure signs on the primers or cases.

I saw one the other week where a guy was loading for a 6 Grendel 90gr and 105gr bullets. He just took a comparable load for 6.5 Grendel with the same 90 and 107’s and basically started near max load. He couldn’t figure out why he blew primers and broke the bolt on his AR.
