this is the very reason that "most" "B"enchrest shooters jam the bullet just enuff so that it touches the lands but not hard enuff that it causes difficulty closing the bolt which would upset the gun in the bags,,,if the bullet is touching it doesnt have room to move and the inertia of movement "usually" will not stick the bullet,,,if (God forbid) you dont have a powder charge in a ctg. you can open the bolt and if you have adequate neck tension it will extract the bullet without sticking,,,,I have did it on two occasions ,,,when hurrying once I missed a row of ctgs. in my loading block ,,,and the other time Im not shure what happend,,,but when I pulled the bullets there was no powder in them ,,,grrrr,,,,Roger

Ive seen them do that and ive seen a ppc get stuck so bad i tore up a dewey rod getting it out

Do I remember correctly that during slow fire in High Power Rifle that we were advised to raise the muzzle fairly high to collect the powder in the back of the case for consistent ignition?
(This was back in "the day", 1970's & 80')
Has anyone done any muzzle velocity or accuracy test on this idea?

Nose tap and base tap test is what the military calls it.

There are position sensitive powders. The amount of free air space left in the cartridge seems to cause one problem. Delayed ignition.

There are others causes.

What do they use now?

Being I have four inline MLs (two Knight Elites, an Encore) including a smokeless 10ML-II and 3000+ shots later I know a little about inlines. The popular alternative has been small using modified reusable handgun casings like 25acp and you guessed it SM/HG primers if you own a Encore 209x50, a similar fix can be had for my 10ML-II, but frankly my accuracy for my Savage has always been very good once I fed it the load combination it wanted.
I haven't done it because my accuracy has been quite good with all my inlines. The single biggest accuracy improvement I ever experienced with my NON-smokeless inlines was trying BH209. Yes BH209 gave me definitely smaller groups, but what BH209 did for me that I feel qualifies it for status as THE PREMIER hands down BEST non-smokeless BP substitute money can buy is it gave me a previously unobtainable level of consistent shot to shot accuracy I could never achieve with using Pyrodex or 3F-777. And I fired over 1500 loads using Pyrodex pellets, about 350-360 with Pyrodex powder and about 500+ loadings using 3F-777.

My first 3 shots using 85 grains by weight of BH209 out of my Encore using a .458" FTX and Harvester BCR sabots formed a beautiful ragged 1" hole at 100yrds. And no that wasn't all that special but the fact I did it over and over was. Same result with my .50 and .45 caliber Knight Elites using the modified BP and bolt suitable for using BH209.

very interesting. finally a use for 25acp cases!! I see theyre getting away from it though and using the premade steel modified cases. looks very good. if I ever get back to worrying about a ML ill sure be in on that. looks very good.
