Interesting old cartridge, 6.5x58R Sauer & Sons

I've been shooting this old cartridge for about 10 yrs now. I use it for coyotes in thicker country. It is a little challenging to work with as I need to swage down 9.3x72R for brass and the bore is only .260 so I swage .264 90gr Speer TnT's down to .260. It will shoot .257 ok, but I fear that shooting the under sized bullet might erode the throat in an irreplaceable barrel more rapidly.

L to R 243 Win , 6.5x58R and the parrent case 9.3x72R Normal.

Quite accurate for closing in on 100yrs old, proofed in 1926

Very limited data available, any additional data would be appreciated.

Pretty handi coyote getter, shoelaces to a couple hundred yards with just the push of a lever.

Have you thought of contacting Hammer Bullets about the possibility of having custom bullets made to your bore diameter?

At over $1/shot I guess it is a matter of economics. The 90gr Speers shoot very well as do the 85gr Sierras and work for the tasks asked of them. The TnT's are $.10/shot and I have the swaging die.

Do you have any Idea what a new barrel installed and regulated might cost if you could find anyone to do it. You make it sound pretty simple.

You have a good system. I doubt you'll ever shoot it out doing what you're doing now. You're keeping an antique shooting, and that's terrific. Thanks for sharing!

No where in the text did i note anything about it being a double rifle, and the word barrel is used not barrels. However i did get my glasses and it does have 2 triggers, which i originally thought was a set rigger on a single shot or bolt rifle, but it does look as if it is a double rifle. On the home gunsmithing site there was a guy that specialized in double rifles, I think his name was John Taylor. My friend George is in to doubles I will ask if he still has a contact his friend that used to build doubles died some time back. You are so right it is getting to be a lost art.

ebb. It is not a double rifle. It is an old European Drilling. Has 2 shotgun barrels side x side, with a rifle barrel mounted directly underneath them and centered.
Note the shotgun shells in his ammo carrier on the stock. He can shoot coyotes really close with buckshot or further out with a rifle.
