Interesting; correct pronunciations, gun talk

I hear different pronunciations of barrel makers. Bartline and Bartlean? Shylen and Shillen? Brux and Brooks? Kreeger and Kryger?

I saw a video on Lee dies and the demonstrator was calling a mandrel a mandrell as in Barbara Mandrell.
I have since changed my pronunciation of that word to the latter. "I need a one inch mandrell for that bushing job".

Leupold = Loy-pold

At least according to Dr. Manfred Leupold, a German I worked for years ago. I worked for a German company and every 2-4 years, we got a new German boss.

As a side note, he said his father didn't return home from the Russian Front until 1953. Seems the Russians understood slave labor.
I thought it was loop old

I've got a couple Oehler (Ay'-ler) 43's and shoot a lot of Lop'-awahh cases.

The German thing does take some getting used to..... the "Canings" back in my home town were spelled Koenig

And how many here knew Bill Calfee (The Best Rimfire Builder . . . . . . IN THE WOOO'LD) is pronounced "Kaffee" ?? (ie calf='kaff')

but the one I get the biggest kick out of (I'm a Finn) is a southerner trying Vihtavuori (Vee'-tha-voory)..... I hear all sorts of stuff but Vite'-a-vour' is most common.

The joy of butchering names:D Leupold - LOO POLLED. Remember the voice message when calling Leupold years ago?

"Thank you for calling LOO-POLLED. Made right... made here".

Hi'ya Seemo...... :) ...... good't du tsee anudder t'Suomalainen p'oyka hey....

The popular German cars (bim - murz) bimmers and motorcycles (bee - murz) beemers or beamers built by Bavarian Motor Works. Count the humps in the "m's" in their nick names, 2 for motorcycles, 4 for cars. One hump for each wheel. Annual rallies are Beemerfest and Bimmerfest.
