INTERARMS RIFLES....?

I came across a Interarms bolt action rifle that is for sale.... but know nothing about them, and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts about it.

I'm not sure what model it is, but someone has tried to turn it into a long range shooter because it has a long, heavy duty, 25-06 bull barrel on it... I mean heavy.

It comes with a centerpoint scope as well.

The whole package is 350.00 plus taxes... is it worth it...?

I'll get another opportunity to look at it tomorrow and get better detailed information.

Interarms used to import commercial Mauser 98 in a variety of calibers from Yugoslavia (a little hazy here) but the importation of them was embargoed during the Bosnian/Serbian war. After peace was had Charles Daly imported 98's from the same factory as did Remington in the 798.

One way to get value on a gun is to look at completed auctions on Gunbroker.com or similar.

It is a commercial Mauser 98 action. The action alone in good shape will bring $300+ all day long. It's a good deal. It will have an adjustable trigger as well. Won't get you to ounces but under 2# is realistic. Most can benefit from trueing but I would guess that it will shoot fine. The Yugo barrels are actually pretty accurate for hunting rifles as a rule. They were hammer forged and clean fairly easily.

We had an old Gunsmith in town that stocked many of these barreled actions for local guys and they are good dependable rifles. Barlow

found a picture of it....

Your information is very helpful... I may have to go check it out closer tomorrow... may have to bring her home....thanks Guys... Dan

Depending on age it may or may not have a adjustable trigger. Some of the early ones had non-adjustable triggers with military style notched cocking pieces.

They are nice rifles and robust as far as strength but throw the scope on ebay and get a good one as centerpoints are worse than tasco's.

They do not make a good long range rifle. I think you are getting the receiver only. If you can sell enough stuff, you may come out I thought they were made by CZ.

It is in 220 Russian, 220Beggs.

I am not sure how much difference it makes, but interarms makes a mark 10 and a whitworth. I have a custom built off a whitworth in 375 Weatherby. It is a really nice rifle and cost 25% of what having a custom built costs.

Interarms sold complete rifles, barreled actions and actions only, over a long period of time. So you can run into all factory rifles, barreled actions with aftermarket stocks and actions that have custom barrels and stocks on them. All manufactured by Zastava in Yugoslavia as I recall. Actions were strong modern steel, but not machined as smoothly (inside the receiver and inside the bolt body) as FNs were. The factory barrels were surprisingly accurate for the most part.

well... I took a better look at it, and found out that it is setup for bench shooting with the super heavy bull barrel and single shot feed. The barrel I can live with, but wasn't sure if I wanted to live with the single shot feed... since I'm more of a hunter instead of a paper hanger. I'm probably silly for not taking it home with me yesterday... but I've got a few more days to think about it.

Thanks Guys for your input.... it's all very helpful.

Butch lambert,

I would beg to differ. 2006 the NRA long range championship at camp perry was won using a commercial Mauser action. It was chambered in 300 win mag. The guy behind the rifle had more to do with the win than anything else, but it's proof that they can be made to shoot.

First, the man shooting that Mauser in 2006 was Kent Reeve. He had a lot to do with the win. In my opinion he could win shooting a wrist rocket. Kent is one of the best long range shooters in the world. he is a long time member of the US Palma team. The rifle was built by Mark Hunt of Wallburg, NC.

Second, I am not a Mauser specialist, but Interarms has had made Mausers in several places over the years. There are Interarms Mausers with metric threads and Mausers made with English Wentworth threads.

That could be a deciding factor having a Mauser made into a modern day sporting rifle.

Most of us know of Kent Reeve. Where are the other mausers in competition? I do own several, but in my hands they are suitable hunting rifles only.
My pictured mini mauser has metric threads.

I know Kent quite well. His abilities are beyond most, that is without question. That being said, the rifles can shoot but there may be better options. Those options typically come at a much higher cost and prevent a lot of people from using them. I simply wanted to point out that the actions are capable of performing well, even at the highest level.

I believe if you visit with a top accuracy smith or even myself, an accurized mauser receiver will cost more than a custom. It ain't no money saver.

I took another look at this rifle today, and couldn't pass it up at 300.00 plus tax from a Pawn Shop... so now I have this Beast or Beauty, and not sure which to call her at this moment... time will tell. Now I need to buy dies and bullets in order to fire up her engines. I'm not sure what to buy right now, since I've never owned a 25/06... any helpful ideas will be appreciated.

The barrel is as big as a trailer axle, 1-1/2" wide by 26" long, which makes you think that someone tried to build her into something special, but I'm just guessing.

My only desire for it is to shoot long range coyotes... but it probably won't beat out my 22-243 AI with 90 gr Bergers... don't even know what's best for her... but I'll have to find out soon because I plan on going out West for Nov-Dec to chase those coyotes, with hopefully getting some long range shots.

If anyone has anymore thoughts... please share them with me...thanks...Dan

I have two 25-06's. Some powders I've used with good results = IMR4831, H4831 (and the SC version), IMR 4350, RL-19.
Bullets that have worked for me: Speer 100 gr BTSP, Speer 120 gr BTSP, Nosler 110 gr Accubond, Nosler 115 BT.

Most of the 25-06's I've been around have been pretty easy to load for. Depending on your definition of 'long range coyotes', I wouldn't hesitate to pop one out to 4-500 yards. At least, after a bit of practice.

Try a box of the Hornady in one of the 'popular' bullets out there (Barnes, Nosler, Hornady etc) and see what yours likes.
