Okay…after using it the first time…still like it and it’s nice but why in the world would they have designed it to work counterclockwise?

I had to really pay very close attention that I wasn’t moving the jaws backwards because the indicator is backwards.

Still scratching my head on the design but it’s a nice indicator and I like everything else about it.

I must be dense. I've never given bidirectional needle movement a second thought. You can always write a reminder on the wall. You may indicate at 6 o'clock whereas somebody else thinks 12 o'clock is the right way, up above someone is using 9 o'clock. My note on wall for outboard spider says, Top CCW, Bottom CW.

Indicate the top of the bore instead of the bottom.

I'd rather have the chamber and throat aligned to the bore. There's a 72 page thread about it. Don't want to derail this thread.

That's a 74.111372- 1 tenth w/ a .687 tip. Probably not super useful with a tip 5x that long.

Q: I would like to know if the 2.75" #111913 indicator point can be used with the 312B-3 Interapid indicator? I believe that the divisions will now be 0.0005" instead of 0.0001" with this longer point.

• The readings would be very close to .0004" per graduation but the indicator will most likely stick, jump and hang with this size point installed. The hair spring can not handle the extra weight of this long point. It is not advisable.

Yep. It's not just about resolution, they're finely tuned precision instruments.
Probably the same logic applies to the long stem- and why it's .0005 and not .0001 with the extra-long stylus.

That's why I have the vertical model. It reads clockwise

I’m the dense one…no clue it was bi-directional.

That's a slightly different model than the one that's .0005 and comes with a 2.65 inch tip. That one comes with a shorter tip... I'd assume that it's .0005 with the contact point it comes with?

I use the long stem interapid!
Lots of room between lines as well so you have enough resolution to easily surpass 5 tenths.

Thought I’d post it here before I listed it in the for sale section. As with many things that end up as a failure in my world, I did learn the value of the larger dial and my aging eyes. So I will now look for a Mitutoyo with the larger dial or buy the V…I haven’t quite decided yet. No doubt it’s nice but I move stuff the wrong way and get things way out of whack…causing more frustration than it’s worth.
