Interapid 312b for sale in the classifieds

All youd need is a long point if you want to go that way
Curious, how does a long point affect an indicator that is calibrated for the shorter stem as shown in the pics? From my experience, the indicator only reads accurately when using the correct length stem .

Youre correct. The interapid has enough space between the marks you can see it

^^^
Long stem is twice the length as the standard, so 1/2 the resolution.
Keep in mind- you're not using it to measure, you're only looking for relative movement which you can see as Dusty said.

That's a slightly different model than the one that's .0005 and comes with a 2.65 inch tip. That one comes with a shorter tip... I'd assume that it's .0005 with the contact point it comes with?

1.450 is the largest contact point you SHOULD put on that one double it’s original.

The long stem model is made different as well. There are 3 sets of bearings that are incorporated with it. I've tried using a longer stem on a standard DTI and it didnt seem to produce consistent results. I think the spring tension is too light for the long stem.

@INTJ

Depends on the application. If doing vertical applications, you're correct. If doing horizontal applications, which I mainly do, I disagree.

I have used both the horizontal and the vertical. I use it for chambering barrels and the vertical was much easier for me. And that is a horizontal application......

This looks like as good a place to ask as any:

I own the Mitutoyo .0001 DTI that works well with the 1.6something contact point--especially after drilling the barrel.

Is the Intrapid worth having in addition to the Mitutoyo? It is a very expensive instrument. I know only I can answer that but asking you guys who I know use or have owned both.

Thanks,
Hank

Id sell the mitutoyo and get the interapid if you had to. Its a very necessary instrument IMO. No need to drill first just get to indicating

@LVLAaron you recently added one to your collection, could you post a link? I tried to find it and couldn’t but I remember when you posted it and I thought….dang, I need to order one of those.

Are you still as impressed as your initial impression?

That's the interapid (NOT the same model that was listed for sale...) vs the Mity that lots of people use for chambering.

The interapid is 10x the tool of the mity. Think Rolex vs Timex.

I have the super long DTI for the interapid but haven't used it yet.

I use my Horizontal Interapid 312B-15 like this. How you holding your vertical version and it work better?

I am holding mine by the dovetail on the back of the gauge. The face of mine is at about a 45 degree angle. The big deal to me is that the dial moves clockwise as the needle moves up. That is far superior for me.
