installing a picatinney rail on a laminate stock

whats the best way? threaded or pressed in insert? want to do this myself, so I won't be able to install an Anschutz type rail to slide in a picatinney.

Just do what the factories do. A nice wood screw. Most screws used in wood stocks have a large diameter thread in relation to the diameter of the head of the screw.

lots of bipod attachment systems use a pic rail, though I guess it's more properly termed an accessory rail. Atlas, for example.

OP, a lot of guys use tee-nuts - you can use a forstner bit (a bit cleaner than a spade bit), to drill the holes to press the tee-nuts, and then mount the rail with screws. That's usually how the atlas rail is installed.

yes it is to mount a bipod that uses a Picatinny attachment

Me personally would not use wood screws..... lots of guys complain that these rails come loose. I would use escutcheons with machine screws and blue loctite or T nuts

T-nuts inside te barrel channel with screws all the way through the stock, epoxy the rail to the stock as well. All the torque of the rifle is going through that joint and you dont want shifting shot to shot.
