Install Bolt Release Rem 40X

Does anyone have lessons learned they can share regarding the install of a bolt release for Remington 40X. I can buy the bolt release from PTG, but I’d like to hear some of the pitfalls and/or success stories before I jump off into this. I appreciate your comments. E

its a fairly easy installation, just make sure the position is correct and the right size end mill is used.I made a jig to hold the action and position it for the roll pin hole

This is the one I did for my XP-100.

Its pretty straight forward. The hardest part is locating the hole for the pin. I used the PTG Lawton/Noster style release. The pin was made out of a 4-40 cap head. I turned off most of the threads and tapped the action to accept and the tip of the pin fits in the blind hole on the other end.

Nice! This is exactly what I'm looking to do on my 40X. Ridgeway, let me study the pics. Is it ok to PM you with any specific questions? Thanks E.

Just be sure that you locate it as far back on your receiver as you can. If not you may not be able to eject a loaded round if necessary.

Very nicely done. Threaded pin is a great idea. 8)

Yeah...clean and no ugly hole on top. I can't take credit for the threaded pin...I got the idea from Butch I think...or somewhere.

Inquiring minds need to know: With triggers available
with a bolt release installed why would you go to the
expense and trouble to install a BR on the receiver???

Because we can and the linkage system is junk!

Larry on this particular rifle, the jewell is the BR model w/o bolt release that's what got me considering it. I also have a couple of the models that do have the release but most still require some sort of tinkering to get the linkage to operate properly. Plus IMO the addition of a bolt release is an improvement to the action.

OK, I understand, just a cuiorosity thing to me.

When I was PD hunting all my 700s were equipped
with the BRBR models w/o any problems. I had
3 custom actions that came equipped w/a side BR and
if they had not the BRBR model would have been used.

I am glad the day of the unsightly BR devices sticking out
of the side of the receiver are gone. LDS
