Inside neck reaming

So some of my .20 practical cases seem to have an inside 'donut'. Would it be advisable to run an inside reamer through all the cases? Are all inside neck reamers the same? Some cases my bullets slide in easily and on some it seems they hit a spot where it's tight and then it's fine.

I have reamers, lots of reamers, I have reamers that fit the inside diameter of the case but it is unfair because my reamers do not work unless I have outside neck diameter support. I have one reamer die and one reamer for that die, it is a 243. The die is a full length sizing die with a opening in the top of the die that is a guide for the reamer, there is no way to ream a neck more accurately than with a reamer die and reamer. And then there are those that talk about it, before that R. Lee made a set of dies he called Target Models, the sizing die was not a full length sizing die but the die was designed like the RCBS reamer die, the lee dies came with a reamer that fit the top of the die and guided the reamer through a guide hole.

When using a reamer in a die with a guide do not forget to lube the guide.

Does resizing with an expander ball move the donut to the outside where it could be trimmed off by a neck turning tool like a K&M? Most likely a good portion of it would spring back depending on the hardness of the brass. So far I've haven't seen any sign of donuts in my brass.

There was not a "set of dies" in a Lee Target Model loader.
It was one die with a tapered neck sizer and a reamer guide in the top. The tapered neck cause the case to be bored with a taper on the outside of the neck.
The reamer guide bore was also the guide for the bullet seating punch. When the case was backed out of the die into the base, the taper permitted the neck enough room to expand when seating the bullet in the same die used for the reaming.

Sizing, expanding, and turning will likely remove the donut just as well as reaming, and unless you're using a die that properly guides the reamer, you will have a much better case when you're finished.

This one time i bought a reamer off ebay and reamed the inside necks on my 6br brass. It was a backwoods way, held brass in hand and ran reamer in with battery drill. Everyone said i was crazy, but it shot dang good and helped my seating force consistency. Could have been dumb luck but that brass won a lot

I inside neck reamed 6mm Competition Match brass for 2 of my barrels and they both have shot 5 shot groups in the ones. Bad thing is they have also done it with non reamed brass.

Your hand moves and keeps from putting a side force on the reamer, same as turning necks by hand. If the case wobbles a bit in the drill, my hand "floats" allows the cutter to follow.

My 22-250 Lapua brass tends to form donuts. I measured the as shot case neck carefully and ordered a reamer. Cost all of $12.00

The reamer fits perfectly in the expanded (as shot) neck and barely scrapes any powder residue away as it removed the donut. I use the "backwoods" cordless drill and hand held method and it works fine.

Still shoots about 1/3 moa at 200, so I'm good with the results.

I run a reamer through my case necks between relays after time the reamer stops removing brass and cases will slide on the reamer with a slight snug fit and only remove powder fouling.
My projectiles seat smoother and my nk thickness is more consistant and on that note reaming was around long before neck turning.
