Initial powder testing

0.030 between touch and jam in my .308 with 200.20x's - I load at midpoint between touch and jam, so 0.015 in.

Interestingly, the 200.20x shoots just as well 0.015 ITL as it does with 0.015 jump. Groups are not as good in between though.
 
My limited experience with vld and high bc bullets is that most of them shoot dependably good about .006” in from touch so that is where I seat them for my powder ladders. Final seating depth has never ended up there but I get easier to read data when first starting out lightly in. Oddly enough right at touch has never been anything special for me.

Not sure if my method of finding touch has a name but saw it on a you tube video by Speedy Gonzalez and uses a barrel in a vertical vise and my LE Wilson seating die. For my old brain it is easy and repeatable to find and serves as a index point for the seating depth part of load development.
