InfraRed thermometer to measue anneal temp?

Has anyone tried using an infrared thermometer to measure the brass neck temperature when annealing to make sure its at the correct temp,650 deg F)

I've made up an annealing jig that works pretty well, and I can controll the time the case is in the flame, so would like to calibrate it for the temperature rather than rely on visual indicators.

The other option is the Tempalaq laquer, but thought a high tech solution might be worth looking at for convenience.

Cheers

Yes to answer your question. I've tried mine hundreds of times and cannot get a reading on the brass. It will pick up literally everything else in my house except the necks on brass. My unit reads up to 1000 ferenheit.

Looks like its the TempilStick then, just have to find an outlet that sells individual sticks and will ship to NZ! Dont really need 10 in a box!

NZVarminter--I think I have an extra 650º Templistick on hand. It is yours with my compliments. I will need an address to which I can send it. Please e-mail your mailing address to me at:
