Info on Vias barrel

I picked up a used .243 w/ Sako action and a stainless Vias barrel. I have just started reloading and looking for the info on the twist to factor in the bullet sizes and can’t find any info on this barrel. Plenty on Vias breaks but not barrel. Any ideas on how I can find the twist rate on this barrel? Gun Smith? I have been shooting factory loads to start and love the gun.

Put a patch on your cleaning rod/jag and just start into bbl. Use a marker and make a mark on the rod by the handle and another at the back of the action. Next push the rod into the bbl until the mark by the handle makes 1 revolution, Make another mark at the back of the action, The twist rate is the distance in inches between the 2 marks at the back of the action. EG> if the distance is 8" then you have a 1 in 8 twist

I doubt that you have a Vais barrel because George didn't make barrels. He was a terrific gunsmith and this might just be his name on the barrel as the gunsmith. He created the Vais brake design then sold it off when he retired.

Here are articles about the cartridges he designed:

George was quite a character. We use to drink a little whiskey together way back when he had his shop in Houston. He was a master with a stick of wood, also.

He was even better in Boise. I used to drive over to his shop, just to visit. My 257 Banshee had a 1.25" cylindrical barrel, and he knocked out a flush fitting brake in about two hours, while I sat there and watched.
There was an article in Precision Shooting Magazine I wrote about it about 1994.
