Inexpensive front rest

For varmint shooting and casual bench shooting, am I better off with the Caldwell Fire Control or the Sinclair lightweight rest? They are both abou $175. If Caldwell, th e full rest or just the front? Thanks again to all for the help.

For about the same money I would strongly suggest getting on the list for a Cowan Rest. I own a Cadwell BR Rock. Not comparison on the easy of movement and quality construction. My 10 yr will inherit my Rock. I played with a Fire Control in a store without a rifle on it. Nothing like the quality of co-axials rests the BR guys use.

Go to the Daily Bullet and search 'Cowan Rest' for some info and picks. Very positive story behind these rest. Bulletin

Just my two cents. Luck with your choice, tiny

I just bought a caldwell BR rest and i must say that i do like it. My mind may change as i get more experienced with bench shooting, but so far so good. Lee

I second the Cowen rest. I've had mine about 3 years, and its worth twice the price.
Problem is, the trade school he works at makes these as a class project thru the year, mainly by order. Send him an email and see if he has an extra. I got mine because they built a few extras that year, and I got the last one. And the profit goes to classmate family emergencies, community projects, etc, so he's teaching the students the value of giving and helping those in need. Watch the classifieds for a good rest, or get a Sinclair. I've seen the Caldwells and they have more slop in the threads. Small groups are made w/ a solid rest. If thread slop allows it to move, you're gonna get frustrated real fast.
Bottom line, buy quality and cry once, assuming your budget allows in these tough times)
