Inexpensive 223 powder

I went down this road a few years ago (2021) and landed on TAC because (at the time) I could get it for around $27/lb. I've worked up 3 or 4 different loads for it, as well as a few loads using BLC-2, and in my limited experience, they have shown to be identical. I went with TAC because it was a couple of bucks cheaper than BLC-2. As powder became more available again, I put 18 lbs of it on my shelf along with a keg of N133 for whacking pds, and a keg of N540 for the heavier stuff. My how things have changed in the past 18 months.

Realistically, I'd go with either TAC or BLC-2. For me, they both meter the same (extremely well), and (grain for grain) produce the same accuracy and velocity in my 223/5.56 loads. Currently VV powders CAN be found for less, but as they are being re-stocked their prices seem to be "adjusting" so that they are once again a more expensive option. If you are willing to spend the money to stock up, and can find N133 or N135 for less than $300 per keg, go ahead and buy as much as you can afford. Otherwise, pick the cheaper between BLC-2 and TAC.

My definition is availability. Can I find it locally and not have to pay hazmat!

I use to buy by the lb and as needed. Now I buy in quantities to spread that cost as many of the powders I use are not available locally..
Most of the on-line places run "Free HAZMAT" sales a few times a year so I wait until I get those advertisements in my email, and then order what I need. IIRC, last week Powder Valley, Midsouth, and Natchez were all offering free hazmat late in the week.

35.00 a lb powder is gonna run you about .13 a round, 50.00 a lb powder is gonna run you about .18
If your looking to save money i would be looking at the Bullet selections.
Midsouth was just having a sale or were on "2nds" for i think 14-15.00 a 100.
I bet if you did a little measuring and sorting you could get them to shoot quite well with the right powder, primer combo if the rifle and shooter is capable.

I bought a jug of this a couple of years back for $160 shipped (IIRC). Shoots great in .222's & .223's. I make my own bullets from .22 RF cases so the most expensive component per round is now the primer.

Yep, I ran off my last 3 8lb jugs of WC844 on my automated 1050 back in January. Shoots great with 55FMJ, SS109 and 62FMJ BT..

Luckily I got mine pre 2020 for $79.99 a jug.
