Indicater setup

i have a South Bend heavy 10 lathe that i use for barrel work. i’m looking for a good indicater set up(not necessarily the most expensive) for this lathe. i would appreciate any help or ideas.

Do a global search here on "Noga". You'll find lots of discussion about what I think is the best indicator holder. Choices of indicators are wide and varied, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. There is even an interesting thread on why the Noga is not so good for barrel work.

I've had great luck with Noga knock-off holders coupled with a Brown & Sharpe 0.00005 (50 millionths) indicator and an Interapid 2.25 inch stylus (it has to be re-threaded to fit the B&S indicator). The standard B&S stylus is about 0.4 inches so a 0.00005 indicator with an Interapid stylus gives a true "thenths" reading.

For barrels, it's also pretty handy to have an indicator mounted on a tool holder.
