Inconsistency loading 375 Winchester

I’m loading 375 Winchester and noticed that the case mouth is not in the same place in the canalure from shell to shell. I’m seating and crimping in two steps and all shells are trimmed to the same length. Can anyone give me some advice? By the way this is my first post.

Maybe the cannelures are not consistently placed bullet to bullet? If your brass is all trimmed to the same length, and your COL is the same, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes brass is trimmed to the same length and oal is the same. I was wondering if the cannelures were off but figured they were more consistent than that. Is it common for them to be off? Thank you.

If that slight ring on the bullet above the cannilur is made by your seater I would try a different seating stem. Looks to be pretty far down on the bullet. What you have will probably work just fine for deer If that's what you're using it for.

Welcome to the forum. I’ve been looking at the 375 for a while. How does it perform for you?

Thank you. I think it’s a very good whitetail round and other similar sized game round. As far as velocity I’m around 2250 fps with 220 grain bullet. Recoil is sharp but far from brutal.

You can easily measure the cannelure on the bullet to tell if they are in different places. I know some bullets had different cannelure placement for the 38-55 and 375, I believe it was the Barnes original.

The tips look like they are poorly shaped. I would want a bullet with better appearing tip closure. Your probably limited to what you can buy in .375. I would ignore it if it shoots good enough for hunting. My Wilson seater used for my 6BR and 6BRX marks the bullets much closer to the tip. Does anyone out there know if the is an ideal place for the seater to contact the bullet to get less run out. Real info and not 50 replies on this is what I do. If you stand the bullets on their base next to each other does it look like the cannelures are at the same location?

It could be that the bullet ogive is not consistent and that causes the seater to engage on the bullet at different heights, which would cause them to be seater shallower/deeper. Left one looks crooked on the foto, but could just be angle/lighting, but it looks like your seater mark is further from the cannelure on left bullet than the right bullet - causing the different seating depth.

Could be a illusion, but looking at your photo, it appears the case on the right is ever so slightly shorter than the one on the left. That could cause the difference.
Yes it appears the case on the right is shorter, but on further investigation it appears there is a gap at the bottom of the left case...is it setting on a grain of spilled powder on the table? , or is the primer slightly high?...
Needs further investigation and double check the case length...set the bullets on a flat surface and check for canalure height consistency...the main concen is bullet set back on recoil bringing up higher or dangerous pressures on the cartridges in the magazine as they are being fired, and bullets being pushed deeper onto the case with each shot.

If your cases are all the same length, the bullets all the same weight and the rounds have the same AOL, then where that cannelure appears to be is not relevant.

It really comes down to you doing some accurate measuring. Looking at pictures won't do a bit of good. You using a decent set of calipers or micrometers and understanding what you're looking for will tell the story.

Everything measure out correctly but I will double check and Also check the cannelures on the bullets to see if their location is consistent. If everything checks out I won’t worry about it. I may post a picture of a roll crimp to see what you guys think.
