Inadvertant powder mix question

My son was helping me dismantel some 6.5x284 rounds that were loaded with IMR 4350, he dismanteled a 308 that was in the back corner of the ammo box and dumped 46 gr of varget into my almost new 1.0 lb canister. Only used 309 grains of the 1.0 lb cannister of 4350.
I have never mixed powders before.

My judgement says toss & learn, or since it is a slight amount useable?
Varget is 117 on burn rate and IMR4350 is 137

If you run the math... that 46gr Varget constitutes slightly less than 1%,about .69%) of what you have left in that bottle. The odds of it materially affecting things if you mix it up real good are pretty slim. But you'll probably always be questioning in the back of your mind anything less than perfect you see out of that lot of powder until it's shot up

I'd say $20-25 for a pound of powder is a cheap lesson. Use it for fertilizer on the lawn, or save it for the 4th of July and burn it on an old cookie sheet in the driveway ;)

Plus.....Varget has a burn rate only about 12% faster than the IMR4350. So, basically, only .69% of the powder in that jug will burn only 12% faster. Which means that 12% is getting diluted by the remaining 99.31%. Lot to lot variances in the same powder can be substantialy more than that. I doubt even a "proofing" lab could tell the difference during firing.

Shoot it ...Shoot it....that is not enough to make ANY difference....just learn to think and take your time,,when reloading......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roger

The problem is you will probably shot some real nice groups with that lot of powder:)The second problem is duplicating the mix:confused: I unfortunately did this once and have never duplicated that pound of powder Good Luck
