I am willing to get flamed for this. My opinion.... the obt theory is a litle lacking. That being said, obt in combination with an modified auddette ladder seem to be a solid approach. It seems to include the portions of each that don't match with the real world. Varmint Al is closest to a real answer, but my opinion of his analysis is that it is being used beyond it original intentions. Longer barrel, bigger bullet.... less benchrest would be informative and possible point us all in a different direction.

Nobody has mentioned those, but assume that the repeat test of the charge in question and the two nearby charge weights showed that the pattern repeated, the particular charge weight scattered both times with nothing else deliberately changed.

Hmmm. 0.5 grains is a big step for many cases. For 308 sized capacity, i generally use 0.2 or 0.3 grain steps looking load stability.

I would speculate a higher order mode is excited. Remember these are mathematical approximations and not models of reality. They are a tool and provide guidance and direction. We aspire to learn and teach others. Like Bart does.

I thought about it. Nobody wants to measure what is really the issue they call neck tension. The force needed to pull the bullet out of the neck.

There are military specs for it called extraction force.

I rigged up some cross drilled bullets and pulled them out of cases with fishing line and a scale. Wasnt scientific but the first day they all agreed with a 21st century hydraulic press. After 3-4 days they could be 25-50% off up and down. It was crazy. Annealing made no difference
