I got permission on two new farms. My wife joined me to be my spotter and we took the 222 and 6BR. All shooting done with the 222. We got 16 confirmed in 4 hours 30 minutes. All shots between 113 and 380 yards. I shot several out of a woodline with a bunch of knocked over trees. The chucks would climb the stumps for a look-see. I shot three off the same stump, 265 yards. Took lots of photos only to find out later the exposure was set on manual for indoors and they were just a white field...i guess I run a rifle better than an camera! The first six I took were SNERTED, head shots. Of course those photos were a total loss. So here are a few that we took after figuring out it camera was set up wrong. 722 Rem in 40x stock, Hart 27, 20 inch, Leupold 6-18, Winchester brass, 50 grain TNT, 21 grains 4198, McFadden Ultimate tripod.View attachment 983118

That's a lot of chucks in that amount of time, good job to you and your wife. Sounds like you picked up two more really good spots too.

Return engagement tonight...slow night. Daughter got her 15th and 16th lifetime groundhogs. One at 123 yards, the other at 227. Both with the 222 off tripod. That was the good news. The bad news is that when we got home, the sling on the 222 popped off the forearm as I carried it in and the gun went to the driveway, on the scope. I cannot see damage, but obviously will be testing tomorrow. DUH! High blood pressure moment!

Heading out again tomorrow for a full day hunt. Mr M...I am hot on your heels buddy!

Took the 222 out for a test run. First shot was 4 in high, five in left. Second was touching, so gun is ok. Adjusted POA to POI and the third made a cloverleaf. ok... Took scope up 16 clicks and got a perfect verticle at 4 inches high. 16 right and it went right 4 inches, then down 16 and made the box. Last one back to 0/0 and it went into the cloverleaf. WHEW!!! looks like all is well.

Went out to the farm where I got a bunch a few days ago. In four hours we shot 3, all under 200. I did shoot one at over 100 offhand, which impressed my daughter. Years ago I shot metallic sillouhette so i was channeling that experience through my huffing and puffing much older and fatter body. Too bad for Mr. Woodchuck, it worked! I think that farm may have been a one day wonder.

Hoping the farmers here mow before it snows!

JPX, surprisingly I did not even flinch. A few years ago I would have snapped a gasket, but having a back injury, a long rehab, getting away from the toxic environment of law enforcement and being glad to be able to walk has mellowed me. Besides, it was a Leupold...and they fix them every day!

I obtained permission on two more places tonight, and my best farms look like they are being mowed this week.

Thanks Kenneth. The little 222 was something I wanted since I was 12 (in 1975). I saw a 40XBBR and a Unertle, and well, it was like the first time I saw a girl. I was hooked. Later in life I was able to clone a 40XBBR with a 722 action, a short hart barrel and now a XB stock. i did not have the ching to buy a 40XBBR stock. But it shoots well enough for the difference. When I originally built it, it was in an Annie Sillouette stock, but it was VERY muzzle heavy and then my daughter started shooting, and she is a lefty, so I put it in a stock she could use from the wrong side. She loves that gun. I got a Ross Sherman Superior rifle for her in 22PPC...she shoots the duece and i have become quite fond of the ppc. Not a bad gig.

I know the feeling about being glad to just be able to get out, do things you enjoy, and chores around the house. Lots of other people can't for various reasons, whether it be health, work, $$, etc., I am grateful I've had no major surgeries in almost 62 yrs, can still mow my own yard and the neighbors when needed, wash the cars myself, etc., and not having to deal with the mickey mouse crap at work. Life can be good.
