In need of .338 VLD's?

Why cant somebody make some jacketed lead core 338 vld bullets.
BERGER?
Hornady?
SIERRA?

Whats the deal?
All kinds of lighter to mid weight hunting crap.

Bryan,

Any firm dates yet? Seems like its been 'real soon now' for a long while... starting to think these things are unicorns ;)

While were on the subject. Could you give us any hints, as to what we might expect in the way of big .308 bullets, or are you going to stay quiet until the Shot Show.

Ya i've been hearing that for over a year, no pun intended ;D.
But come on get them in the yellow boxes and on my door step ;D

I am looking forward to a VLD in the 300gr range. Currently I am shooting a 300gr SMK and they shoot very well from my LM.

Very well

I've been using the 250 gr Lapua Scenars for years, which has a pretty good BC of .675, and the new 300 gr Scenar lists a corrected BC of .785. They have been generating their numbers off of an instrumented range recently.

I'll point out that at the time I started loading .338, pretty much the only match bullets available were the 250 and 300 SMKs and the 250 Scenar. The Scenars printed groups as small as .4 inch, five shot at 100 yards using a factory 700 Sendero-SF with a Vais muzzle brake. Best groups ran .379", but it's hard to hold that tight in a lighter rifle with that much recoil even with a brake. The load was a .338 Reminton RUM case (sorted cases), a Winchester magnum primer, 89.5 gr RL-25 for a muzzle velocity of 2950 fps.

In most 26" barrels, I've found pretty good accuracy nodes at or close to 2950 fps with heavier match bullets.

At any rate, this load stays supersonic out to 1500 yards which is further than any range I have available so I have no need to try any of the newer 300 gr bullets. The additional BC wouldn't really come into play to any great degree because of the decrease in muzzle velocity out of a 26" barrel. I wouldn't be quite able to match the 2950 fps and would end up at the slower accuracy node of about 2730 fps.

Not to say that the other new bullets aren't good bullets, just that I don't see them bringing a substantial improvement over what I have already developed.
