In defence of our personal opinions.

Guys in a recently locked thread we were discussing what some think is an unethical method of targeting big game at what a lot of people would call extreme ranges.

Look if you can hit an elk at 1000 yards with one of Eric Steckers VLD's and a scope that his company endorses, fine.

But what I didn't like was when Eric came to the table and starting attacking members because their opinions differed from his.

I know that Berger bullets are a contributor to this site and I appreciate that. And with respect to his work and contributions to our pursuits as shooters and hunters, he should'nt get a free pass on slamming members of this forum because they have a different opinion.

Eric, I would like to see an apology to the members you threw under the bus or at the very least a rebuttal to catshooters post about his credentials.

To all, after having several private correspondences with Eric Stecker I have found him to be very reasonable, if not a little zealous in defence of his company, absolutely understandable).

I will not post the exact contents of the private messages but the gist is Eric has offered to put Paul Coburn aka Catshooter in touch with the folks at TBOTW so they can discuss there differing views.

Hopefully Catshooter will keep us all abreast of the developments.

To All,

I apologize for the manner in which I responded to several posts and posters. I made some assumptions which led me to errors in judgement.

My first assumption was that everyone knew Berger Bullets was a sponsor of The Best of the West. If you have seen one of their shows since 2005 you will see Berger Bullet commercials and Berger is mentioned often during the show. By not mentioning this fact I was not hiding it but rather mistakenly assumed it was well known. Most know me to be open and this is not a piece of information that would have been hidden intentionally.

My second assumption was that those who were posting particularly harsh statements were the typical forum product basher who did not know what they were talking about. Instead of assuming they,CatShooter in particular) were not knowledgeable I should have asked for their credentials first. Once CatShooters knowledge level was known we might have had a more intelligent and reasonable debate rather than the mudslinging that resulted.

My third assumption was that since no one has complained about the performance of TBOTW scope it must work just fine. I am not an optics experts. I have not used the scope personally. I do, however, listen to shooters and take seriously their comments. Given our association with TBOTW I assumed that SOMEONE would complain if they had a problem. This has not happened and many have said how much they like TBOTW shooting system.

I know that those at TBOTW are honorable men. I have made them aware of this discussion and am hopeful that they can provide the science and how they handle CatShooter's concerns part of the conversation. I am also connecting TBOTW folks with CatShooter directly so that this subject can be resolved.

Regards,
Eric
