IMR4895 & 75gr Amax

Hi

Ive just got my tikka .223 back with a nice 24' fluted Border barrel with an 8' twist all fitted in a lovely robertson tactical stock.

Im gunna be loading 75gr amax with imr4895

I know im gunna have to start low and work up but i dont wanna load too many that i will have to pull etc

o out of interest what loads are you guys using as some site show max of 22.5, 6br shows 24.5 being max but quick load shows 72000psi for 24.5gr.

To my way of thinking, IMR 4895 is a touch fast for a 75 gr. bullet in a .223. I shoot F Class with 75 AMax out of a 30 inch 8 twist MacLennon barrel out to 600 yards. Beyond that I use 80 gr MKings. With the 75 AMax I have tried 748, BLC-2 and AA2520. The load I settled on is 27.0 gr 760 which chronos at 2960. My barrel has a long throat for the 75s and 80s. If your barrel has a standard throat, DO NOT use this load. I have actually gone up to 27.5 gr 760 which is a compressed load. The AMax bullets have thin jackets and will deform over a compressed load.

I use 75 A-Max's over Varget in a 1-7' out to 600 yds., nice enough in the wind to get me the Vermont State F/TR Title this year.
