IMR Powders?? Just Won`t Cut It??

I grew up shooting many IMR powders, and am curious why the many competitors never seem to use these in competition. I will maybe learn much from some knowlegable replies, thanks.

I shoot improved 6BR`s and it seems there are some good burn rates in thier lineup.

I'm trying to get results with IMR4895 in a 30' shilen barrel, 6BR. 105 lapua scenars....actually trying a bunch of stuff, I think the best will be RL15,30.0 gr, CCI 450, Norma brass,,015' in the lands. It sure makes 80gr Berger FB group well, it my money round for up to 300.

tclaunch,
My opinion is that the IMR powders have a larger variable based on shooting conditions, temperature ) than the Hodgeden or VV lines of powders.

I do however use IMR, 3031 in my .308, 4831 & 4350 in my 300wsm, and 7828ssc in a 7mm wsm

I'm not sure why the IMR's don't get used in competition. I use IMR 4320 in my .308 win and with the gun in a vise its a one- holer. I haven't noticed any fluctuations in point of aim with humidity, barometric pressure, or temperature.

This is an interesting observation though.

I am mainly interested in IMR4320 and IMR4895. I just am going to try them and see where it leads me. I shoot Varget and RL15 as well, and have a good supply of Norma 203-B, just love it. Just feel the IMR is a good powder as well, as many of my rifles for hunting are working great with IMR.

During my load development for my .308 the two I settled on were IMR 4320 and IMR 4895. Both worked equally well in my rifle. The trick for me was to find the velocity where several powders shot well, then figure out what powder worked best at that velocity. I loaded up on IMR 4320 because it was much more available locally.
