IMR Enduron Powders Being Discontinued

Just got this from Powder Valley:

Hodgdon Powder has announced the discontinuation of their IMR Enduron product line. Those IMR powders are: 4166, 4451, 4955, 7977 and 8133.

Wow, that’s a little hard to swallow!
I like the 4166 and 4451. And aren’t some of the Accurate powders manufactured in the same plants?

Anger!!! I am just finishing up load development with 4166 in 6BR as a Varget replacement.
So they are stopping production of their most modern, temp stable, copper fouling reducing powders? Must be too expensive to produce.

I also saw they are still listed but when looking at the powder, I found this:

Something is really going on in the slow burning rifle powder market. It is as if either the bulk of it has been commandeered either through the distribution chain or before it, or there is a choke point in one or more critical components of it.

These powders are matches to the "H" line up and the "H" line probably sell better.
Materials are getting harder for them to get and make powders.

I hit on a load with both 4166 and 4451 but I don't have much
of either in stock. if this is the case, I will not pursue anymore
development with them and just trade it or sell it off to who
really needs it. Just take it to a match and first come first served.

Most if not all of the powders I use are made abroad. I’m sure significant production capacity got dedicated to orders related to the war in Ukraine.

If it has slowed down any, it’s because of the current economy on personal budgets.

The issue is very likely back at the manufacturer which is in Canada, General Dynamics Valkeyfield Quebec. Very likely an additive that makes it what it is is difficult to get.

4166 came out about 5-6 years ago. it was one of the first enduron powders released.

'Rationalizing' a product line is a common practice after consolidating with another company [in this case, another brand]

Fewer SKU's means [at least in general] less cash tied up in inventory, less complex logistics, less work to market them [in this case, developing loads]

Only problem is, Hodgdon can't keep their normal line of product
in stock. This has been going on for years. They bought the IMR
brand back in 2003, so I wonder if the other IMR's maybe on the
bean counters chopping block also ?? As for cash tied up in Inventory ??
The shelves still don't dictate that at this time. Usually, excess inventory
means a price drop, and we all know it's the opposite with this company.
