imr 8208 xbr in 223 w 55 gr bullets primer influence???

HI

HAs anyone here done any comparison of imr 8208 xbr in the standard 223 rem with 55 grain bullets and looked at primer influence.

so far I have tried it with rem 7.5's, cci br4's, and winchester wsr. they all left room for improvment, and I got the best results near the top end of the load option in the hornady manual. the rem 7.5s were the best of a less than ideal lot

It seems like I read somewhere at some point in time that imr 8208 xbr might like small rifle magnum primers better than regular ones. I have some cci 450's that I recently picked up.

Can anyone share their experience with them and 8208 xbr, or that powder in general with 55 grain bullets in the the 223.

Thanks

I havent used different primers yet. I worked up a few load with win small rifle primers . It seems that the best loads iv found are near max loads for some reason. Maby it has something to do with case volume ? works really good in my AR . Havent tried it in 308 yet, seems to have low case volume in bigger cases .. i like a full case

Look into the Tula SRMs. I've been switching most of my primers to the Tula brand (with the exception of the big mag cases, still use Fed GMM 215s for these). The Tula SRMs seem to have a slightly harder cup than the Rem 7 1/2s and accuracy is better along with lower ESs, same can be said of the Tula LR mag primers in the cases I've tested/used them in with the exception of the bigger belted and non-belted magnums.

Shooting a lot of .223's, mostly with 40-50 grain bullets, I recently encountered a big change in velocities from one batch of loaded ammo to another. While dialing back to obtain my old velocity (a mild load for high-volume mid-range varminting), I decided to do a comparison with a number of primers, all using the same 8208 XBR load, 50 V-Max (hbn coated) and lake City brass. I'm going to test these tomorrow: Tula.223, Tula .223 Magnum, CCI450, Remington 7 1/2, Federal A/R Match. I'll post results tomorrow evening if I get them all shot.

I did the testing on the various primers in my .223 (24" Shilen 1-9"TW bbl. A/R), using Lake City Brass and IMR8208 powder and 50 grain V-Maxes.

My standard load was with Tula .223 primers as a base to compare the others with.
Tula .223 Magnum ran 4 f.p.s. SLOWER

Remington 7 1/2 primers ran 45 f.p.s. faster

Federal A/R Match ran 5 f.p.s. faster

There were two five-shot groups of each fired. Meaningless for comparing other loads - but does highlight the variances between different primers with the same load.

How did the ES's come out for you? Lower with the Tula'?
