IMR-7828SSC - don't hear about it

The Hodgdon Load Center shows higher velocity than H4831sc using 140's in 260 Remington (I averaged 2830 out of my 25" barrel with 7828ssc) and figured a 6.5-284 with longer barrel would be very impressive but I haven't read anyone talking about it. Why is that?

I just can't get the accuracy I want out of it with either of my 6.5-284s. Haven't done much work with it in anything else.

In a 260, I think you may have just missed the pressure accuracy node of 7828ssc. The 140s do go compressed for you right?

I know in my 300 win mag, it likes the loads a little on the warmish side. That being said, it shoots them Very Well Indeed! I use wolf primers.

Good shooting

I use 7828ssc for my 30-338 Lapua pushing a 125gr Ballistic Tip at 'hiper-velocity' (over 4000fps). 98.75gr of powder is a large load, but really quite accurate. No signs of pressure.

My .284 provides excellent accuracy with Berger 180 Hybrids and 7828. As diriel said, best results are at full pressure. I also use Wolf primers; KVB-7M.

Thank you for the responses. Hodgdon doesn't show a range of loading data, just one - 47.0 gr - for the 260. I'm using Winchester 243 cases (larger capacity), Wolf primers (lower brisance) and about a 0.010" jump for the 140 Sierra SBT's in an effort to lower pressure. No sticky extraction or loose primer pockets so maybe I have to room to experiment with?

Diriel, I was wondering if you would explain this a little more? Yes, there was a little compression since I can't hear the powder when I shake the cartridge.

What it amounts to is, it is hard to get enough powder into a standard 260 case to hit max Saami operating pressure. With 7828ssc I have found my accuracy loads right near the top of the pressure range. Not to the point of ruining brass or anything like that however.

On the other hand, there is usually also a low pressure accuracy node. Given that I shoot a 300 win mag with a muzzle brake, I rarely ever pay any attention to that node :)

Good Shooting
