IMR 700 X v. Hogdgon 700 X Powder

Guys -

I bought some IMR 700 X from a web vendor. When it arrived, it was Hogdgon 700 X. I'm assuming 700 X is 700 X, and that this is just a name change of companies. My reloading manual specifies IMR 700 X, but that may have just been the name of the company at the time the manual was published.

Am I correct in that these are the same powders and that 700 X is 700 X?

Thanks for the words of caution. Actually, I called Hogdgon this morning (Friday 1/23/15) to check on this, but as luck would have it, the office is closed on Friday. So, I guess I won't be reloading with this new powder this weekend.....

Better safe than sorry. Just a short time ago someone posted a blown up savage, now that's a mistake in grabbing the wrong powder but good evidence that stuff can happen quickly if you don't err on the side of safety.

Looking at the MSDS on each, they are the same.

Since hodgdon is the distributer maybe they are phasing the IMR name out for all we know but I would still check and start low.

Hodgdon purchased IMR® Powder Company in October 2003. http://www.hodgdon.com/history.html http://www.hodgdon.com/msds.html One in the same, but use at your own risk.

If you compare the IMR burn rate chart with the Hodgdon burn rate chart you will see H700 is listed in the same place as IMR700.

Same stuff, same name, different brand mark on the bottle (they did the same with IMR 800X).

It's Monday morning, and Hogdgon is open for business. I just got off the phone with a Hogdgon company rep. He confirmed that IMR 700 X is exactly the same powder as Hogdgon 700 X. It's simply a change of names on the label.
