IMR 4831?

I have a friend that says he aint been able to find IMR 4831 in years. Has this powder disappeared? I never used it myself. Said friend doesnt reload himself, he doesnt have knowledge so I ask here out of curiosity.

What powder would be closest to IMR 4831 for an alternative?

I don't have a 7 mag but the burn rate chart says this

- what weight bullets? The Hogdon site lists several alternatives that are slower burning but not "closest" to IMR 4831. IMR 4350 would be worth a look.

I’m also in central Texas, near Groesbeck. I have 2 pounds of H4831 and would sell ya a pound of it. It’s a touch slower than IMR 4831. I’ve used it for my 270 for 40 years, but don’t hunt with the 270 much these days.

Hodgson powders arent to hard to find. H4831 is on the shelves everywhere I've seen.

H4831 is noticably slower than IMR 4831. If I was looking for a replacement Reloder 19 would be my choice.

If you can find some, Accurate 4350 is almost identical to IMR4831 at least in the lots I have. The only slower 4350 is Shooter's World by just a tiny bit.

Edit... VV N160 or N165 may be a good alternate too. It's available at a few places.

IMR 4831 = R#19, none of this either. I saw a keg of IMR4831 for sale at Cabalas a few months ago, $540 was the price.

I’m glad that you mentioned the burn rate of A4350 versus other 4350’s. I have a couple of pounds of A4350 that I bought for use in my 260 for when I couldn’t find R17, and I had no feel for the burn rate.
