IMR 4166

Has anybody actually seen Varget since the run on powders. My guess is that Hodgdon has spent their capital on this run of Canadian IMR powders rather than going back to the Austrailian maker of Varget (French owed ADI). They did get a run of IMR 7828 SSC done.

I am looking forward to actual chronograph data from Accurate Forum shooters.

What's Varget?

Seriously though. They are still making and selling Varget, I promise (can't make the same promise about AA1680).

Denton Bramwell did a study and came up with a formula to convert cup/psi not sure how "perfect" I works but here it is

Convert cup to psi and reverse rom Denton Bramwell study
Let’s go through a couple of examples to show how the formula works.
The formula PSI = -17,902 + 1.516 x CUP is useful if you have data published in CUP, and want to
compare with data published in PSI,
© 2002 Denton Bramwell

CUP # x 1.516 – 17,902 = PSI
Example

50,000 cup x 1.516 -17902 =57,898 psi
57,000psi +17,902 / 1.516 = 49,407.65 cup

I have used this a number of times and it seems close enough to start load workup when powders are shown in different data - cup/psi.

I dont know if I would call 4166 fine or not,,it meters about like Varget,,and in my 6.5x47 with 140 gr bullets it shoots a lot like RL15,,2750 fps with 38 grs and 28 inch barrel,,

it shoots good in my rifle but not any better than what I have and I get more speed with H4350
