IMR 4166 and Sierra 155 Gr. TMKs

I loaded up some 155gr Tipped MatchKings with some IMR 4166 and told the guys on the Reloading Room Facebook page I would throw up my results on Accurate Shooter.

Here it is. Disclaimer: I am not a competitive shooter. I have shot in a couple of local 300 yard matches, but just for fun. I am not an expert reloader, I do not sort brass or bullets, I just size, trim and load. I plan on sorting my next batch, but this one was not.

All rounds fired through a Savage F T/R in 308 Win with factory barrel and Rifle Basix Sav-2 trigger at a distance of 100 yards. The barrel after firing these rounds has a total of 800 documented rounds through it.

I purchased two pounds of IMR 4166 and two hundred 155 Grain Tipped MatchKings. I loaded this up with CCI BR-2 Large Rifle Primers, and used Lake City 12 Brass.

I loaded up 5 rounds in each of the following weights: 43.0, 43.4, 43.8, 44.2, 44.6, 45.0, 45.4, 45.8, and 46.2 Grains. Loads 45.8 and 46.2 were compressed and 46.2 nearly filled the case. Powder was about 3/16" from the top of the neck.

I did shoot 5 foulers at 43.0 grains before getting started.

All brass was bumped .002" and neck sized to .334" with a Forster Should Bump Die.

Brass was sized and trimmed to 2.000" +/- .001" using a Lee Quick Trim. Brass also had clean primer pockets, and also had the flash holes deburred.

While shooting, I would fire one shot, then I had a timer set for 60 seconds after each shot for cool down.

The temperature was 74 degrees. Humidity was 85% and the dew point was 69. Barometer was at 29.88 and steady. Wind was left to right at 6mph.

All shots were Chronied using a Magnetospeed Version 1 controller and a Version 3 Bayonet.

I was surprised to see that on the groups that shot tightest, the SD was very low. I'm not sure if this is common or what, but It's nice to see none the less.

You shouldn't be surpriesed, you hit a node and I would test further between the two. Start playing with seating depth and extend your range (aka shoot a real match out to 600 yds. at least - you know you want to!)

MTM- I would love to shoot a 600 yard match. I know there is one about an hour away. Hoping to play with seating depth this weekend, weather permitting. Been pretty rainy here lately.
