IMR 4007 SSC!!! Do I Need a Care-Taker??

So I just got home from our local gun-show with my little bargains, including an unopened pound of IMR 4007. -- 25 bucks. What could possible go wrong. I've never tried the stuff, but the guy said it's about a match with 4064, which I often use.

Wellllll--- now I find out that it's been recalled, and -- maybe I didn't make a very good deal. jd

Interesting powder that had a recall a while back because it was not stable.
Quite fun in 6BRA.
Wow, wounds like @jds holler and IMR4007 may have something in common . :D

I consider everything outside the known to be a scam. I know this is not productive thinking but having had several attempts to rip me off in this brave new world of scam artists, I have grown weary.

What are plan on shooting it in, .17 REMINGTON ?

Hal
Nahh. I don't have a 17, and will prolly just chalk it up to "bad luck-bad skill". I know the guy I bought it from, and I don't think he meant to scam me.
It wears an original sales tag from one of our local shops here, and price was $25.95, so that's been awhile. I might call the IMR number on the jug, and see what they say, but if worst comes to worst, I'll take the hit.

It may just be suspicious/paranoia, but now that I smell it - it seems a little "sharp" to the nose; not the sweet powder smell that we all know and love. jd

Sooooo--- I just dumped the powder into my fire pit, and tossed a lit rag on it. Didn't want to waste a 25 dollar fire experience.

Guy at IMR said there was a claim form he could e-mail me, but I figured to just cut my losses and put it behind me.

The fire wasn't worth more than maybe five bucks.

If IMR will send you a pound of a powder of your choice at their expense, why not go for it? Takes the sting out of being scammed imo.

I just got rid of several pounds of 4007SSC. They will ask for proof that you had it and send you a check for cash. I believe I got $34 a pound for it. Definitely worth doing the claim form.

I suppose I still could since I have the bottle with price sticker. BUT -- I wasn't the original purchaser, the purchase was probably done ten years ago, and frankly I don't want to spend even an hour of my time jumping through the hoops it would take to get my 25 bucks back. jd

Unfortunately, that wasn't an option given to me.

I'm not sure where they got the reimbursement price but, I'm guessing it was somewhere in the ballpark of the retail price when it was removed from the market.

You won't have to spend 10 minutes. It has nothing to do with you being the original purchaser or anything...it was a safety recall. You snap a picture of, if I remember right, the barcode and lot number, fill out the form and attach the photos and then electronically file it. It takes like 5 minutes. A couple weeks later you get a check in the mail.
