Improving Coaxial Rests

I have read numerous posts about improving the function of coaxial rests by honing the internal plates where they cycle against each other. If these plates are anodized, does this create an oxidation problem? Are folks treating the metal in any way other than the preferred grease/lubricant that is applied between the plates?
