Good News!
We have activated ENHANCED SEARCH Functionality for the Forum. This permits faster and more efficient searching.
AND you can now search simple, common gun terms such a "6 BR" and "30 Cal" or "300 WM" without getting errors. You can also create searches with common words such as "New", "Small", or "Sell" without getting errors.
Check it out by clicking the "SEARCH" button at the upper right.
This is a major improvement for the site following our software upgrade last month. We are working on other improvements. Some of the features of the previous Forum software are not available yet, but we are working on that. More funding may make it possible to commission custom add-ons that will help. And that leads us to Part 2 of this message...
REQUEST for Members -- Consider Upgrading Your Account
We need more Forum members to upgrade. This is important.
Please consider upgrading to Silver or Gold to help support the site.
The $25 Silver membership works out to just $2.08 per month.
Here are reasons we are asking members to upgrade:
1. We have learned the new, updated software demands considerably more high-cost technical support on an ongoing basis. Also we may have to do significant server tuning and error-chasing. That will be costly -- very costly.
2. As the site has grown, the amount of time required for security-related matters, such as background checks and scammer fighting, has doubled (at least). I am now spending up to 3 hours per day on security matters, and typically 1.5 hours per day, every day of the month. That's about 550 man-hours per year or over 3 MONTHs of 40-hour weeks -- all with no direct compensation (zero revenue is earned doing security activities). But I am putting in this time to protect you, our members.
3. We Need More Man-Power
As Forum Boss and Site Editor, I am now working 3200+ hours per year. I have worked all but 3 days so far in 2020. I turned 65 last month. In addition to the moderator duties, and security tasks, I release roughly 1000 Daily Bulletin stories and Match reports a year. That's more than the NRA American Rifleman magazine does with SEVEN editors and a platoon of writers*. Here are just a few of our stories in the last 20 days:
