Impact plating with Tungston DiSulfide

Sorry I've been away guys...Two new bird dogs to train/2 GWP's both rescues.. I could not be happier with..Hunting was great last season...Things went very well on last years Varmint safari also...You would not believe the shooting, so lets leave it at that..Many busted GH's & a few new farthest away shots...The Tac 20 is just the sweetest rifle for use up to about 500 yds...The 39 Gr Sierra blitzking impact plated bullets really performs..No copper fouling & I could shoot all week without cleaning...I'm going to set up a couple of guys around here with the Steel BB's & WS 02...I'm planning to order another pound or 3 of the stuff so if anyone is interested in a better product than moly to coat bullets with JUMP IN ON THIS THREAD...I'll order & divide up the materials.cost will depend on how much I can order..plus shipping...I'll send detailed instuctions to any who need them...If you have the interest, this stuff works great & is easier to do well than moly coating your own bullets...If just to make barrel cleaning easier..Or to help with copper fouling adversely effecting accuracy in less than perfect barrels...I'm convinced this stuff has merit..The problem 22-250 barrel turned out to be a broken screw in the scope base...Still it cleans up much easier with this stuff than running without it...My farmer buddy used my reloads for his 22-250 & he loved the accuracy in his rem 700 varmint..We cleaned it well & then sighted it in for the 60 gr V-max load...No issues...no quarter mile kills to report..But 300 meters he was really on the steel practice targets..We never cleaned that rifle either all week..mike in ct

Hello Mike, I'd like to try some of this lube on my bullets. Please send me an email at keithcandler@msn.com

Thanks so much!

Keith

Yep, called DANZAC by another name. Been used for coating bullets by some folks for some time now.

Newer product being used is Boron Nitride, typically found in glass-making or other industrial processes as a mold release or high-temp lubricant. Not cheap, about $70 per pound) but a little goes a long way.

This stuff's white powder, impact plates the same as moly but you don't need the wax step and there's no sulfur in it that can react with humidity. Coated bullets come out looking dull and very slippery. Only source for BN-coated bullets right now is David Tubb's Superior Shooting Systems in Texas, unless you want to do your own which isn't hard at all.

Where can one buy the "steel BBs" to do the impact plating?
How many pounds of steel BBs does one need to do the plating?

Buy BB's, literally. Work rather well.

I use 75-100 BB's in a 4 ounce container. Coat 25 223 bullets or 10 long 30 cal bullets. Put the cap on, throw in the tumbler for 20 minutes, pull the bullets out, tumble in shreaded newspaper, and you are done.

Mike, I just bought a half pound or I would get in on it also.

I've been using WS2 and really like it as well. Less pressure, less cleaning, less heat in the barrel, easier cleaning, and I cant prove it but my groups might even be a little better. Whats not to like.

I bought a seperate bowl for my vibrating tumbler just for that purpose.

This is my routine that seems to work well. I used about half a carton of 6000 Daisy BBs,the carton was about $5).

Open the box of bullets and pour in some rubbing alcohol,,I use alcohol because it doesnt smell as bad as some harsher chemicals and it still cleans well and drys fast) close the box and shake gently, then I crack open the box and pour the alcohol back in the bottle with a funnel.

Then dump the bullets out on a clean rag to pat dry.
When the bullets are dry you can toss them in the tumbler with the BBs.
The amount of WS2 depends on the number of bullets your doing and if the BBs have already been treated. A little goes a long way but since WS2 doesnt stick to itself your unused WS2 will still be there for next time. I have done 400 bullets at one time without any issues and used a 1.5cc Lee dipper full of WS2.,there was some left over when finished.

When the bullets are done after an hour or two I dump them through a strainer,or pick them out of the BBs) and drop them in a tube sock and fondle it a little to get off any residue.
Now you have pretty silver bullets.

I keep a separate plastic container to use in my Lyman vibrating box case cleaner..[That thing is noisy]..Just regular BB's cheap ones....maybe 6 ozs...I stripped them clean of any wax or grease by just washing in hot water & detergent...Rinsed with clear ammonia & hot water...I used a plastic strainer & the sun to dry them..Hot air guns work also...Everything must be clean & very DRY for this process to work correctly...I added a couple of grams of WS2 to the BB's & let them vibrate away..After they have a nice coating of WS2 on them..Add Cleaned & DRY bullets to the container, a gram or two of WS2 powder & let her rip..40 mins..I stop half way thru to check & I might add another gram of powder if things are going slowly....I keep a small flat wooden paint stir just to use in that container..Keep it simple...pick out the bullets, load & shoot happy...It really keeps the barrels in nice shape..Real easy to clean..Oh one other thing...Clean the barrel before shooting these plated bullets...It will be the last time you will see blue fouling in that barrel...I can't promise you all one hole groups using this stuff..You may have to fool with your pet load to get these treated bullets shooting as well as your regular loads..But the ease of clean up & no worry about copper fouling adversely effecting accuracy is an experiment well worth trying in any problem barrels..mike in ct...ps where are the compliments on my great looking GWP ADDIE???
