IMI Nato and 223 Rem head stamps

I have each and am curious if anyone knows of any difference in toughness?
I do have a very savvy, experienced bud who has the 223 Rem marked that he has pushed hard and calls it, tuff & excellent.
Anyone?

There are no hard & fast rules of which headstamp is THEEE best. All manufacturers have good and bad batches of brass.

Lapua and Norma are the most consistent, in my opinion.


Everybody else, well, somebody is going to find the piece of chocolate with coconut in the middle.

I have a bunch of IMI 55gr in .223 and 5.56... I have never had a problem and as far as their brass it's all I have been loading the last couple of years with no problems... Both old , say 1998 and brand new....

IMI (Israeli) is good brass. I have been using the mil spec mod
for years in all my RRA's. Very consistant.

IIRC, Speer has used this make in its reloading manuals through several editions now.

This is because of the very wide disparity in case weights / capacities for this cartridge and IMI ranks as being extremely low on the latter scale. (ie produces highest pressures / lowest MVs.) The rationale is that if a load is within SAAMI max pressure in this brand, it's unlikely that it'll turn out higher in alternatives.

I don't recall using any IMI 5.56 brass recently, but had a small batch several years ago. As I recall, it was noticeably heavier than all other brass I had at the time. Perhaps this was indicative of that lot only. I have no reason to believe it's not good brass.

The head stamp doesn't really tell you about IMI, LC,PMC, FC, REM,WCC or any other except who made it (maybe) and when it was made. I like most of the NATO stuff. It is strong and I usually don't mix manufactures. That's just me. There is a list (google head stamp small arms) of all of them if you need to know.

Whats the old commercial "takes a licken and keeps on ticken" I have been using it for my midrange f class loads Pushing 90s at 2825 fps Im at 4 loadings on my current batch have only lost a couple so far
