Im stumped... help please

I don't have a Dillon press but have encountered the same problem with some 9mm bulk "once fired". The primers would stick to the decapping pin and return part way into the pocket on the upswing. Spinning the pin in a drill with some Emery cloth solved the problem.

The pin sticks out about half an inch past the primer pocket... lol. Im lost too... i need to sit and trouble shoot it.

I have a feeling the primer is pushed out fine on the down stroke, but then hangs on the pin and seats itself back in the primer pocket on the up stroke... theres no way else this could be happening... haha

Its like the primer cup molds onto the decapping pin and hangs...
Sorry I wasn't of help on this one but thanks for the info. I didn't know about the spring loaded decaping rod Dillon has. Just looked in the blue press and it showed it in their dies. They say you may need it with crimped military brass. Mabie the glock is somehow spreading the primers and causing more force needed to pop them out and then the rod pushes into the primer more and sticks. good you got it solved

I hate to admit i feel like i should have bought dillin dies all along... just hard when you already got some paid for sets...

Yeah I hear that I've got some Dillon dies older ones there nothing special -I bet there punch would fit in rcbs dies if needed. I never had this problem but it must be fairly common. Now I know wat to do if it happens.

WE will see.. i ordered 4 power punches, should get them in by the end of the week.

I have about 80 sets of green box dies. The only blue box ones are for the Square Deal B. Nothing wrong with the RCBS...try giving them a call. The may send you the package of longer pins for FREE!!

Steve :)

I'll post pics after I get back from my gun club on Sunday. The firing pin on a Glock is rectangular, and if it strikes OFF center (and they do) it will push metal over the lip thereby crimping the primer.

I should get my power punches in anytime now. Ill post back with how they help.. if they do..

Im pretty sure i figured it out, ill have to post pics once i verify..

Sniper, Please do, I just bought a Glock 17 and haven't bought dies for my Dillon yet.

^ Ditto, only it wasn't 9mm brass. Cheap and easy to try. Worked for me.

UPDATE:

So far i ran through some myre brass loading it up, no issues. The RCBS power punch decapping asymbly works like a champ! Pops them all right out with enough force to fling one here and there. I put glock brass in purposly and it ran through them no problem. So theres the fix.

Verified decapper pin was being pushed in and the cup of the primer was like "molding" to the pin to create a tightening effect around the pin so the primer itself held onto the pin. It pushed out, but the strength holding onto the pin was great enough on the down stroke it seated the primer back.

So fyi... power punchs are like $8.25 at midwayusa... cheap easy fix for sticking primers...
