Im stumped... help please

Reloading 9mm on my dillin press...

I have the decapper/sizing die set down just as low as i can go so i get a good resize, BUT i have to have my decapper pin assymby down a lot too, its gotta be going all the way through the flash hole, it knocks most of them out no problem...

BUT... brass shot in a glock mainly the primers do not come out and it jacks me up where i cant keep things rolling..

Why the hell do primers shot in a glock not pop right out??? The decapping pin has gotta be going through and pushing it...

Look at the rectangle firing pin hits & case BULGES of your 9x19 brass fired from striker fired/combat tupperware compared to supported chamber conventional firing pin struck primers.

Yes i know theres a more square primer strike, thats why i know its glock brass.. no bulges i can see, havent had an issue with that...

My problem has got to be the decapping pin is being pushed into the primer, then the primer locks onto the pin... it has to come out, but then gets reseated on the up stroke. Its gotta be catching and hanging on the decapping pin...

Is there a burr on the end of the pin? Maybe hit it with a little bit of emery cloth?

Which Dillon and what dies? There are several different types of decapping stems and pins depending on the brand of dies you have. Some of the decapping stems do not have a stop inside for the pin to come to rest. The pin hits a tight primer and instead of pushing the primer out, the pin is pushed up inside the decapping stem. I have a couple of decapping stems that I have tried and tried to lock that pin in place with no success. Epoxy has worked on a couple and longer decapping pin (drill stock) has worked a couple of times. See how tight that decapping pin fits in the stem....

Good luck.

Steve :)

Not sure why it's only Glock brass, but did you check the spring that the decapping pin seats against?

I've crushed the spring in my RCBS universal decapper on crimped military brass and had simular problems.

Dillon xl650

Rcbs carbide 3 die set. The pin is solid in place in the assymbly i think, it bottoms out where i cant go further..

Could be the pin is walking off to the side due to the Glock striker mark and getting stuck.

If the spring is broken behind the decapping pin it will pull the primer back into the case instead of popping it out.

This decapping assymbly doesnt have a spring in it that i know of, the pin bottoms out on the holder..

So to adjust the decaping pin-you're sure the rod is adjusted all the way down so its almost against the case when ram is in up stroke? Did you try a longer pin? You use these same dies set the same in a single stage does it work?

Yes its all the way down. In a single stage press it happens a whole lot less...

I found rcbs makes a power punch assymbly that should replace it... im thinking about trying that out...

It just sounds like problems I've had when my decaping pin wasn't going far enough to pop the primer out. I'd try a longer pin first.

The pin sticks out about half an inch past the primer pocket... lol. Im lost too... i need to sit and trouble shoot it.

I have a feeling the primer is pushed out fine on the down stroke, but then hangs on the pin and seats itself back in the primer pocket on the up stroke... theres no way else this could be happening... haha

Its like the primer cup molds onto the decapping pin and hangs...

I was thinking you had the Power Punch set up for your dies when you said you were running a Dillon, my bad.

That should fix your problem.

Good luck

Do they work much better? I just have the stems that came with the dies...

Yes, the spring is preloaded as you push the primer out.

Once the primer is nearly out of the pocket, the spring tension is released with a snap

that will shock even a stuck primer off the pin.
